Lesson #2


Lesson Title: Making Rubber Band Car (Elastic Energy) - Science

Grade: Five
Date: July 16, 2015


Curriculum Expectations:

3. Demonstrate an understanding of the various forms and sources of energy
and thee ways in which energy can be transformed and conserved

Specific Expectations:

3.3 describe how energy is stored and transformed in a given device or system
3.4 recognized that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can only be
changes from one form to another

Materials:
  • Ipads
  • Materials need to create a car
Before - Minds on


  • Students will view the following video, so they can focus on the process of transferring energy 
           
During - Working on it

  • Students will be asked to create a rubber band car ( showing elastic energy) requiring them to research the process of how to build it (YouTube)
  • Student’(s car will be required to go 3 metres
  • Students can work in partners
 After

  • Students then create a video (Imovie, Quicktime), showing how their car is able to travel 3 metres, will include an oral component to explaining how their car works which should include information about the transfer of energy
